M. Katherine Hurley graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the College of Mt. St. Joseph in 1974 and has been a practicing professional artist in Cincinnati, Ohio since 1976. Katherine was also a student of renowned colorist Wolf Kahn. She has become nationally known for her evocative landscapes in oil and pastel. Her work has been published in numerous books and magazines. M. Katherine is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America. Her work is represented in several renowned galleries and part of numerous private and corporate collections. Hurley teaches oil and pastel painting in her STUDIO 703 at The Pendleton Art Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, gives workshops, has taught at Baker Hunt Foundation in Covington, Ky. and has worked with hundreds of High School students through the Artists Reaching Classrooms program at the Taft Museum of Art. She has been a mentor to a countless number of artists of all ages.
Cincinnati art historian, critic and curator Daniel Brown states: “M. Katherine Hurley’s landscape paintings and drawings are artworks with multiple purposes. They are first and foremost sanctuaries, places and spaces of rest, mediation, spiritual renewal and beauty. The less realistic her work is, the more we are dreamily drawn in and want to stay.”
