William St. John Harper lived and painted in East Hampton in the 1890’s. He studied at the National Academy of Design with William M. Chase and Walter Shirlaw. He was president of the Art Students’ League in 1881, Associate member of the National Academy of Design (1892), member of the Artists’ Aid Society, and the New York Etching Club. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, New York Etching Club and the Pan-American Expo. He also conducted a summer art school in East Hampton
