Arthur Helwig
(American, 1899-1976)
Arthur Louis Helwig was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1899. He began his studies at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under noted Cincinnati artists Herman Wessel and John Weis and furthered them at the Acadamies Julian and Modern in Paris with Leger and Ozanfant. A prominent member of the Cincinnati Art Club, Helwig served once as a president and twice as a board member. His other professional affiliations included the American Artists Professional League, Cincinnati Professional Artists (president) and the American Watercolorists. In 1929, the former Art Academy student became a teacher and remained there until the 1970’s. Along the way, he took time to author"Making a Lithograph"(Cincinnati Museum Association) and "Prints by the Dozen" (produced by WLW-TV).
