Albert Valentien ( 1862-1925) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1862. He was a part of the staff at Rookwood Potteries from 1881-1905. He and his wife Anna Marie Valentien settled in San Diego in 1908 and established the Valentien Pottery Company. Commissioned by Ellen Browning Scripps to record California’s wildflowers, he produced 1200 watercolors between 1908-18. He died in 1925 in San Diego, California.
