Avie Biedinger (1924-2017)
Avie Biedinger, the youngest of ten children was born and reared in Branch Hill, Ohio. She attended the University of Cincinnati’s College of Applied Arts and in addition studied with several of Cincinnati’s most celebrated artists such as Paul Chidlaw, Jack Meanwell, Reginald Grooms, Don Dennis and Ray Loos. She was one of Paul Chidlaw’s favorite students, he felt that she really understood what he did and he loved her work as well.
Avie was an active and enthusiastic member of the Cincinnati Art Club, which was formed in 1890 and is one of the oldest continually operating collectives of artists in the United States. She was one of the first women to be accepted into the club. Avie was often juried into Viewpoint the Cincinnati Art Club’s prestigious annual national competition.
Biedinger exhibited in many local, regional and national juried shows including Dayton's Women in the Arts Invitational in 1978 and the Cincinnati Art Museum's Invitational Exhibition of Watercolors and Photographs in 1977.
Her work is included in the corporate collections of Procter and Gamble, Cincinnati Bell, IBM, Citizens Federal, Ameritrust, Cincinnati Financial, Cincinnati Real Estate Board, Miller Valentine Group, Permanent Collection of the Ohio Watercolor Society.
Her memberships include Cincinnati Women's Art Club, The Cincinnati Art Club, Ohio Watercolor Society Associate Member, the Art Academy Alumni Association. Avie was also a signature member of the Kentucky Watercolor Society.
