Stephen Alke

(American, 1874-1941)

Stephen Alke was born in Augusta, Kentucky in 1874.  He painted landscapes and portraits, and he designed murals, posters, and art glass.  From 1919-41, he worked exclusively as a landscape and portrait painter.  He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati with Frank Duveneck, T.S. Noble, Henry Sharp, Vincent Nowottny, and L.H. Meakin.  He died in Cincinnati in 1941.
