Francesco Tammaro was born in Naples in 1939 where he attended the Instituto D'Arte di Napoli, one of the most reputed Fine Art schools in Italy. Shortly after graduation he traveled to France where he lived for a few years.

The artist is now also a valued and appreciated teacher of art who has the capacity of awakening in his students the love of a style of art which seems to be disappearing, suffocated by superficiality and abstraction.

He was nominated "Academician of Italy" in 1978 and awarded a gold medal by the Academy of Italy of Salsomaggiore. This academy also dedicated an entire color page to him in "The Great Dictionary of Italian Artists."

In the same year, one of his paintings titled "The Farmer's House" was sold at an auction in New York for $10,000 and, a small but curious detail, one which must have brought great pleasure to the artist, is that the owner of the painting had a tavern rebuilt in his house exactly as Tammaro had portrayed it in his painting.

In 1980 he staged a one man exhibition in Manhattan which was a great success with both critics and the public. To quote a contemporary review in the prestigious Italian newspaper "Il Matino" of a subsequent exhibition in the Gallery Mariona in Milan:

Stopping to observe closely Tammaro's works, the eye cannot but note the climate in which this Neapolitan artist works, nor how modern and direct is the pictorial conversation that he has been leading for many years. Accepting classical and traditional composite subjects rich in poetically veiled pictorial expression, with his paintings Tammaro offers a nostalgic return to certain images which, though of the past, still constitute something unsoiled, evocative and beautiful, something which merits the complete devotion of an artist, full of sentiment, and master of pictorial syntax."

During his artistic career he has participated in many cultural events and has held collective and one-man exhibitions in the most important art centers of Italy: Florence, Rome, Sienna, Venice, Assisi and many others. He has also participated in collective exhibitions in international cities such as Paris, London, Helsinki and Vienna.
